A feature wall is one of the quickest ways to change how a room feels, and the question we get most is whether to paint it or paper it. There is no single right answer, but a few things usually point you one way or the other.
When paint makes sense
Paint is the simpler option and the easier one to change your mind about later. A bold colour on one wall can lift a whole room for the cost of a tin and an afternoon. If you like to redecorate every couple of years, or the wall is in good flat condition, paint is often all you need.
When wallpaper earns its place
Wallpaper brings pattern and texture that paint cannot, and on the right wall it looks like a real design choice rather than an afterthought. It also hides a wall that has seen better days better than a flat colour will. The trade-off is that it costs more, takes longer to hang well, and is more of a job to remove down the line.
The wall decides too
A wall that is cracked or uneven needs sorting either way, but paper is less forgiving of a poor surface, since a bad join or a bump shows through. We always check the wall first and tell you honestly what it needs before you spend money on a roll of paper it cannot do justice to.
