What it costs to paint a room in London

Every quote is different, but the things that move the price are always the same. Here is what a decorator is actually pricing when they look at your room.

Bright repainted bedroom

The honest answer to what it costs to paint a room is that it depends, but that is not much help when you are trying to budget. So here is what actually sits behind the number when we quote a job, so you can see where the money goes.

The state of the walls

A room that just needs a fresh colour over sound walls is quick. A room with cracked plaster, flaking paint, or damp to sort out takes real prep before any colour goes on, and that prep is where a lot of the time and cost lives. Two rooms the same size can be very different jobs.

How much there is to cut in

Cutting in around windows, doors, coving, radiators and built-in shelving is slow, careful work. A plain box of a room paints faster than one full of trim and awkward corners, even at the same square footage. Ceilings, and how high they are, add to it too.

Paint and coats

Better paint costs more per tin but covers well and lasts, so it is usually money worth spending. Dark or strong colours, and covering a dark wall with a light one, can need an extra coat, which means more paint and more time. We factor that in rather than springing it on you halfway through.

When we quote, we break it down by room and by job so you can see it clearly. If you want a rough idea before we visit, send us a few photos and the room sizes and we will give you a ballpark the same day.
